In general use, herbs are any plants used for food, flavouring, medicine or perfume. For culinary purposes the leafy green parts of an herb can be used either fresh or dried. Herbs can be perennials such as Thyme, biennials such as parsley or annuals like basil. Perennial herbs can be shrubs such as rosemary.
